I'm preparing a presentation about our Makerspace / Agile Learning Lab for a few weeks from now, so I've been researching innovation in the valley, hoping to put our Agile Learning Lab in historical context for innovation. In doing this, I discovered that two huge innovations for Newberg happened in the same month — two events that completely have changed the economy of Newberg and surrounding area. In February, 1965, the first Pinot Noir grapes were planted in the Willamette Valley and Newberg's current larger employer, A-dec, opened for business. These two events started small and grew into something enormous, becoming huge forces that have shaped Newberg and the surrounding area.
